Seeking a night out in Gaithersburg? Whether you’re seeking a family-friendly meal or a more wild time, Growlers, the oldest brewpub in Montgomery County, has it all.
The two-story microbrewery is located in Olde Towne. There is a small bar near the entrance and a dining area on the first and second floors. If you’re headed out with the family, this is where you’ll be seated. The restaurant has a kid’s menu and provides crayons for little diners. Every time I’ve been there, the wait staff has been extremely nice to my children. On our last outing, they made smiley faces on the tops of their drinks, which seems like a small thing, but brought big smiles to the faces of my little ones…and a happy kid means happy parents.
Growlers, being a brewpub, offers several house brews, which are typically available year-round. They include the Kingpin Kolsch Ale, Seneca Pale Ale, Alleyway Amber, Yorkshire Porter and Broken Shovel Stout. There are also seasonal beers, which are offered when ingredients are freshest and in season. The seasonal beers that are currently available are Rye’ld Thing, Bullseye Special Bitter, Batch #666 Satan’s Little Helper, Foxxxy Brown Spiced Brown Ale, Chamowheat Wheat Beer, Fatty Monk Belgian Chocolate Stout, Chefeweizen, Mashing Pumpkins Pumpkin Ale, Maple Pumpkin Porter, Kinder Toten Lager, Chesapeake Old Bay Ale, Your Mom’s Apple Pie Ale and Regular Red Ale. The beer selection changes frequently, so check the restaurant’s website or call ahead if there’s a particular brew you’d like to try.
Growlers’ lunch and dinner menu features a large selection of appetizers, pizzas, salads, pasta and sandwiches. Other entrees include grilled chicken, grilled salmon, steak frites and shrimp and grits, to name a few.
The restaurant also offers a Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The brunch menu offers breakfast foods like omelets, French toast and oatmeal. Some of Growlers’ regular menu is available during this time as well.
If you’re more interested in a fun night out, Growlers has a third floor loft with a large bar area and covered patio. The loft frequently features live entertainment and other events like trivia and poker nights. Check out Growlers’ monthly calendar of events. The loft and bar downstairs have happy hour pricing daily from 4 until 7 p.m. Specials include $1 off appetizers, $2 off Angus burgers or house brews, $3 rail drinks and domestic beer and $4 house wine.
