Kentlands Art Barn

Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood, the facility features rotating exhibits, classes for all ages and performances in the upstairs theater. Built in 1900, the structure was originally a barn owned by the Tschiffely family. After undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation in 2003, the facility now has space to accommodate four artists-in-residence, several exhibits, classes and summer camps, and a variety of productions in its 99-seat theater.”

Arts Barn

Classes offered at the Arts Barn are changed seasonally. The current slate of Fall classes feature choices for adults, teens and children. Class topics include drawing, painting, sculpting, jewelry making, dance and art appreciation. Visit Gaithersburg’s RecXpress website for more information or to register for Arts Barn classes.

The Arts Barn hosts its ongoing Singer Songwriter Concert Series every three to four weeks. The featured artist performs in a two hour and 30 minute concert, open to anyone five or older. The Arts Barn also hosts a ninety-minute workshop with the singer/songwriter, which offers additional insight into the artists’ work, and is open to participants 12 or older.

Arts Barn

Another ongoing performance series is the Arts Barn’s Comedy and Magic Society. Magicians Mark Phillips, Bob Sheets, Barry Wood, and Brian Curry will perform their tricks for audiences at the Art Barn Friday evenings at 8 p.m. on October 30, November 29, and December 27. Tickets are $12 for Gaithersburg residents, $15 for nonresidents.

This month, the plays ‘War of the Worlds’ and ‘When Welles Collide,’ will be produced by the Sandy Spring Theater Group. Performances will be at the Arts Barn Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. between October 11 and 27. Tickets cost $14 for Gaithersburg residents, $16 for nonresidents and $9 for children (12th grade students or younger).

The Montgomery Playhouse will perform ‘God’s Favorite,’ a play by Neil Simon, from November 8 until November 24. Performances will take place at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets cost $14 for Gaithersburg residents, $16 for nonresidents.

Arts Barn

In December, the Sandy Spring Theater Group brings ‘Scrooge!’ to the Arts Barn. Performances run from December 6 through 22 and will begin at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets cost $16 for Gaithersburg residents, $18 for nonresidents and $9 for children (12th grade students or younger).

The theater and galleries at the Arts Barn are available for rentals by businesses, individuals and nonprofit groups when the facility is not in use.
